John’s Story

Site created on January 11, 2023

On the evening of January 9th, our amazing dad had a massive stroke (atherosclerotic stroke). Our mom was able to call 911 and they took him to Overtake Hospital shortly after. Around midnight, they were able to start an Embolectomy where they thread a catheter from groin to remove the clot in the brain but after 4 attempts, they couldn't make it work. He is now on IV Thrombolytic therapy so it's a wait and see if it works treatment. Hopefully it can break up the clot and prevent new ones from forming. Yesterday, he had a very attentive and caring CANADIAN nurse.  She recognized his Canadian engineering ring.  She said based on how we alll talked about him, she could tell the he is an amazing man the more she gets to know him.

He was in the hospital last week for pain/testing and was released Friday.  He’s had excruciating neck back pain since August. It’s been painful for all of us to see. We should have pathology results this week beyond the stroke.  They ran a bone marrow biopsy.  All we can do is one day at a time.

His right side and speech aren't working. Anyone that knows our dad, knows this must be hard for him to lose his speech. When he opens his eyes, he's there! You can see it. He is responding. He moves his left foot, opens his eyes, stuck his tongue out even. He raises his hand, and even itched his nose and ear as well as fiddles with his blanket.

He's had visitors and we know he hears everything we are saying to him. He even smiles. He is where he needs to be and getting the care he needs. If you want to visit, bring your jokes. You know Johnny loves a good one! Many have asked what they can do to help. Obviously thoughts and prayers!!! Being there to support my mom and brother who are holding down the house and JVH Tech and be there for dad. We will update what we know as we know it.
