John’s Story

Site created on May 27, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. John, Jeannine and Andrew were out enjoying the day on Saturday May 26th when John suffered a massive heart attack. Thankfully his wife Jeannine and son Andrew were with him in the car and quickly started CPR while they waited for the ambulance. John was taken to Abbott Northwestern Heart Institute in Minneapolis where they immediately began the hypothermia protocal to help prevent further organ damage.  They were able to place 4 stents in his arteries to restore blood flow to the heart but now it is a waiting game to see how he responds to treatment and the damage done to his heart and organs.

Newest Update

Sorry that is has been so long since we last updated.  No news is good news!  Dad continues to make great progress!  He is done with home care, and he has started outpatient Cardiac Rehab and it is going well!  He is no longer using his cane except when he has a walk that he is unsure of the distance he will be going and then it is just for balance support in case he may tire out.  He had his first visit with his new Cardiologist, and he said that his heart seems to be functioning well and that everything looks good right now! He told him, as other Cardiologists have, just how lucky he was to make it and have an outcome this good since one of the arteries involved was the LAD or more commonly called, the "widow maker" artery.  His stamina and strength are increasing every day, and he is handling distracting/stimulating environments and things much better now. He still has some residual chest pain from CPR, but that is getting much better.  He sees the cardiac patients around him in rehab that have been there awhile doing much more than he is, but we all tell him that he will be there in a few weeks. He has already come a long way in a very short time and patience is the key.  Again, your prayers, love and support have made all the difference in the world in his recovery.  Our entire family feels very blessed to have you all in our lives!  We hope you all had a great 4th of July!! Thank you all again so very much!
