Journal entry by Lisa Petersen —
I wanted to include the note I sent to Father John, which he read during the funeral.
My dad is my hero. He always saw the good in people, and that is a lesson I will carry with me my whole life. He was the best joke teller, story teller, best dad and grandpa. He would literally drop everything to help anyone who needed his help. He was the first person I wanted to call whenever I had news to share. I liked being his princess at the ripe old age of 43. I spent my entire adult life trying to make him proud, and I hope I did. As he lay dying in the hospital, he rolled over in his bed and stared into my eyes. I don’t know if he was aware of what was going on around him, but in that moment I felt a peace. Peace that he was going to a better place. Peace that he would soon be reunited with my mom. I just kept reassuring him that it was going to be all right and that he was ok. My dad, my hero.
