John’s Story

Site created on April 12, 2022

As most of my family and friends know, I have been hesitant to publicly comment on John's health over the past 2+ years. Since John has many caring friends who want to know how he's doing and how his family is holding up, I have created this site to provide updates in one step. It would be impossible to start at the beginning so I will jump to where we are now. John has had a series of setbacks since December 2021 with many hospitalizations in 2022. A week ago today he fell and couldn't get up unassisted. Reluctantly I called 911 and he was admitted to the hospital. It was during this stay that John agreed to engage hospice. He spent a few nights at AR Hospice as an inpatient but is home now with hospice care and an additional part-time caregiver. Due to strokes he has aphasia so can't express his thoughts but he understands everything and I read him every text or email that comes his way. He will usually laugh or have a comment that I can pass along. Jonathan knows I am updating everyone through this site since I didn't want his phone blowing up if anyone tried texting him (as if he'd read them anyway). For now John isn't up for having visitors but that may change and if it does, I will let everyone know. Feel free to send him messages or send them to me and I will pass them along. As I told John the other day, these past two years have been such a long grind but now it feels like it's gone by in a flash. We thank our village for your words of support, encouragement, love and so much food. We love you all and know you love us, too.
