John’s Story

Site created on October 2, 2022

John William was a victim of an apartment fire on Sunday, September 25th; how it started is undetermined and other tenants mentioned an explosion. John came running out of the building on fire and was taken to the Via Christi Burn Center in Wichita with 3rd degree burns over 70% of his body and 2 spinal fractures. The Newton Fire/EMS responded quickly and reached him within 10 minutes of the call and had him in transport in less than two and a half minutes after arrival on scene. His care team is wonderful, responsive, and communicative. We are thankful that he was immediately, and continues to be, in very good hands.

His care team is encouraging notes, cards, and pictures to be sent. They will hang them in his room so he will know he has been thought of and rallied around throughout his healing until he is awake and can know there are visitors with him.
