Journal

From John’s beloved friend, Mark Dacy, who was with John throughout his final journey, attending to his every need and standing beside him as he transitioned:

We each hold John S. Banks in our hearts, and especially on this day, when his magnificent soul was born into our world on July 6, 1956.

His magnetic personality was like a sun around which his family and friends orbitted, basking in the radiance of warmth and joy and merriment he radiated upon us.

Just as John masterfully orchestrated his life, he transitioned on his terms, peacefully and without pain,  on June 27, 2021 at 4:32 PM, with a family member and close friend at his side all sharing the words “I love you” as his spirit freed itself from physical form headed straight for a heaven whose glory we can only imagine.

While we grieve John‘s passing, and most likely will for some time, let us not forget to celebrate John‘s life and the rich gift of what a true and loving relationship can be.

In the end for each of us, love is really all that matters.

John’s life and his relationships with family and friends created a collective universe that we all share and will continue to share so long as we hold John in our hearts.

His relationships are proof that we can choose to love fiercely and unconditionally, and with a richness that lives on through those family and friends whom we have loved, and who have loved us, so dearly.

A memorial service to remember and celebrate John‘s life will be held at the Cathedral of Saint Philip in Atlanta Ga on July 19, 2021 at 10 AM with a light luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances in John’s name may be made to

Atlanta Humane Society (atlantahumane.org/donate)

Hospice of West Alabama (hospiceofwestalabama.org)

and

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church
(PO Box 839 Eutaw AL 35462)

We love you John “Sister” Banks.

And we thank you for your shared gifts that so enriched our lives. ❤️
