Joey’s Story

Site created on April 22, 2018

At 4:16 pm on Thursday, April 19th we welcomed Joseph Allan Brenner to the world. At ten weeks early, he weighed only two pounds and ten ounces and was 16 inches long. After a complicated pregnancy, Joey decided he couldn't wait to meet Mommy and Daddy anymore. Since we knew he was going to be so early he had a whole team of doctors waiting for him in the delivery room. Joey will be spending approximately the next ten weeks in the Mercy NICU, We know he will be getting the best care possible and look forward to the day we can take him home!

Journal entry by Lindsay Brenner

Today is a big day! Joey is two months old! He has surpassed the six pound mark (just barely) and is now fitting into both newborn diapers and (some) newborn clothes! It’s amazing to see how much he has grown.

Joey was circumcised today and received his two month vaccines. He is recovering by getting lots of mom snuggles.

Last night Joey passed his car seat test! This is where he has to sit in his car seat for an hour and a half without having andy oxygen or heart rate drops. This is an essential step in getting ready to go home!

Joey is struggling with eating. He was doing very well and taking around 25mL at each feeding, but recently has dropped back down to 5-10mL per feeding. We think it’s a combination of the fact that he has severe acid reflux and the thrush that he got in his mouth. He seems to have developed an oral aversion. He hardly even takes his pacifier anymore. Hopefully he gets over it soon!
