Site created on February 10, 2019

Joe was admitted to Avera McKennan ICU on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 because of complication from Influenza A.  He was placed on a ventilator and given a paralytic and sedatives to ensure he is calm and allowing the ventilator to do its work.  He is critical but stable.

Update:
Joe is getting stronger every day! He no longer needs oxygen during the day! Praise be to the LORD! This is amazing. He does continue to use a CPAP at night, which will continue when he does get home. He has been working really hard with therapies. He has been standing for a few minutes at a time and today he was able to pivot!

We are truly hoping he gets transferred to the Rock Valley hospital, but that is dependent upon insurance. We have been waiting for the pre-authorization to go through since last week Friday. The case manager told us yesterday that tomorrow (Wednesday) would be the earliest we would have an answer. It would so much better for Joe and the rest of our family if he were here in town.

We continue to need and appreciate all your prayers. We are so blessed. We hope to pay forward all the prayers, love, kindness that we can!

Much Love;
The Van Beek Family: Big Joe, Kellie, Joseph, & Tucker.
