Jimmy’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated on Daddy's journey. We appreciate your prayers, love, support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting and sharing in Daddy's journey to recovery. On July 16th Daddy was diagnosed with pneumonia. He was treated with oral antibiotics at home. On July 18th, he was feeling extremely short of breath and exhausted. He decided to go to the emergency room at Our Lady of Lake Hospital. After numerous tests in the emergency room, he was admitted to the hospital. Upon admittance to the hospital, they immediately began treating him with intravenous antibiotics and breathing treatments. The doctors were concerned with the results of the CT scan, which indicated swollen lymph nodes in the center of the chest and abnormalities in the lungs. A biopsy of the lungs and lymph nodes was performed on July 23rd. Daddy's pneumonia started getting better, so he was released from the hospital on July 25th. The night of July 25th he began having trouble breathing once again, so he was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. It was determined that he was going in and out of atrial fibrillation, so he was once again admitted to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in the cardiac unit. On July 26th, the pathology results confirmed that he has lung cancer and also cancer in the lymph nodes. On July 27th an MRI of the brain was performed. Last night we were blessed with the great news that the MRI of the brain did not show any tumors or cancer. We will be meeting with the oncologist in the morning to confirm when he will be performing a PET scan. Once the doctor receives the results of the Pet Scan, he will be able to give us a more conclusive prognosis of Daddy's condition. Daddy remains in good spirits and is eating well. He is enjoying visits from family and friends. He is maintaining his strong faith, continuing to pray daily and receive communion. Daddy and mother, along with Kevin and I, truly appreciate the outpouring of Love, support and prayers that you have shown. Please continue your prayers that the Lord's Healing Hands will touch and guide Daddy through his journey.

Journal entry by Amy Martinez Ledet

With great sorrow, I am writing to inform you that Daddy peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 30th.  I have not been able to write this journal entry until today.  We humbly appreciate the outpouring of love, support and prayers that you shared with us during his 12 day stay in the hospital.  While Daddy's death may seem sudden to some of you, please find comfort and peace that he went to Heaven to be with Leah and Jimmy.  Some were blessed to have him on earth for almost 82 years, for my mother-he was a devoted and loving husband of 57 years and to me he was the BEST DADDY EVER!!!!  Please reach deep within your faith (as Daddy would) and know that he would not want you to grieve for him, but rejoice in his presence with the Lord in Heaven.  Daddy will forever remain in the hearts of the many people he loved, as he never met a stranger or made an enemy while on earth.  May God bless all of you and your families. Amy

Visitation for Daddy will be on Sunday, August 4th from 5PM until 9PM at Wilbert's Funeral Home, Plaquemine, LA and Monday, August 5th from 8AM until the mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, White Castle, LA.
