Journal entry by Cheryl Malone

Sorry for this long post. It’s been quite a year.

One year ago today, August 7, 2022 at 5:15 AM. Jim had a stroke. He was transported to Willowbrook Methodist. One of the machines they needed was not working. So, he was transported by Life Flight to Methodist The Woodlands where he was in ICU for 4 days.

It’s been quite a long year of rehabilitation which started at Encompass at Vintage Park upon leaving ICU, followed by home health, and currently at TIRR since last October 2022. Jim has an amazing speech therapist, Toni. He really works hard for her. She is so patient and we are so lucky she is his therapist. He will be discontinued at the end of this month. The plan is for him to attend Houston Aphasia Recovery Center for 4 months. Then, return to TIRR to be re-evaluated.

Jim suffered his loss of speech which has been the hard on him. We all know how much Jim loves to talk. He definitely had the gift of gab for many years! I know he loves talking to you on the phone. Thank you for your patience while he talks. We are hopeful one day he will have that gift again.

We all know he struggled with his knees and mobility prior to the stroke. He continues to struggle with mobility. But we are awaiting a pool chair lift. This will allow him to get in and out of the pool with assistance of the lift. Hopefully we will have that installed by the end of this week or the beginning of next week.

It’s been a long journey, but we continue to fight the battle.

We are so grateful for all of our friends and family that have helped along the way.

Continue to pray that he will get his speech back and be able to communicate again through his gift of gab and the chair lift will help lift his spirits. We all know how much he loves getting in the pool and spending time outside.

I continue to pray daily for a miracle. I know one day he will have a miracle.❤️❤️❤️
