Just a quick update.

Dad has been moved to a ‘regular’ room out of the ICU.

Yesterday, he got up for a brisk walk and abruptly went into AFib. We understand that’s common for someone who’s undergone bypass surgery but scary nonetheless.

Today, he went for two walks and did ok. He had a bath for the first time since before his surgery. Felt and looked a lot better afterwards.

He’s waking up a little more everyday and is understanding more what has happened. Six hours of anesthesia can really knock you for a loop.

Wednesday my good friend Donny Haywood took time from his pastoral duties and visited with dad. His daughter had taken care of him in pre-op. When I went to see dad Wednesday night he told me ‘Woody’ had been to see him. Woody is a guy I work with and bought our Mustang. He brought it back to an unbelievable life and has won lots of trophies for our old car. Two of which he gave my dad. I really didn’t think it was implausible for Woody to come see him but thought it was a little strange he’d come to Sherman on a workday. They’ve become pretty good Facebook buddies over the years and my dad loves seeing pictures of his old Mustang.

I asked dad, “Woody MALLETT came to see you?”

“Yes, I told him his daughter took care of me”.

“DAD, that was DONNY!”

“Oh yes, Donny”.

Donny literally called two minutes later and asked if my dad knew who he was. He said he THOUGHT he’d heard him tell the nurse while he was leaving “I have no idea who that was”.

Apparently he did know who it was, but completely wrong on who it actually was. 😂😂😂

Oh well.

He will probably be in the hospital another week at least and then off to rehab.

Our hope is that he will be able to regain his physical strength and use that new, clear heart to be the guy he was ten years ago.

Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts you’ve sent Dad and our family. We’ve passed them all along to him and he appreciates them so much.
