Newest Update

Journal entry by Liz Hood

Hello everyone-

It has been a long time since I've posted an update here. I thought it would make sense to do that now as yesterday (April 2, 2023) was 5 years to the day of Jim's massive and life-altering stroke.  A lot of mixed emotions come into play with this "anniversary." On the one hand, had you asked me five years ago how I would feel to be able to sit in a room with Jim and have him look me in the eye and listen to me and even laugh while I tell him a story, I would tell you that I would be elated. On the other hand, had you asked me how it would feel to have him unable to care for himself or his family and living in a nursing home five years later, I would have said that he would hate that. So I sit here with mixed emotions as I type this update - on the one hand, SO grateful for his physical presence and the fact that his personality remains for the most part "his", and for some moments of connection we can share. At the same time, I  grieve for the life that he essentially lost that day. The active job he loved, the trips to the hockey rink with his beautiful boy and best buddy, all the moments with his family from the big moments to the mundane everyday moments we so often take for granted.

On a hopeful note, Jim will be having  a procedure in May to help correct some issues with his foot which we hope will help the possibility of him gaining some foot function. Krissy and my dad are much closer to the details and can explain it better so I won't go into too much detail here, but will post an update after that!

In the meantime, Jim loves having visitors and staying up to date with what's happening with everyone. If you ever want to pay him a visit, feel free to stop by the Copley in Stoughton. The previously tight Covid-related visiting restrictions are much looser now - all you need is a mask and you're good to go!

Wishing everyone a happy Easter!

xo,

Liz
