On Monday night Jim experienced pain in his left shoulder. Shortly thereafter, his left armed ceased working. A few hours later, he suddenly lost use of his left leg. He was able to make it to his bed, but as the pain increased, he yelled for Steve to call 911, at 4 AM. He was taken by ambulance to Abbott Northwestern Hospital. In the ER, it was quickly determined that what he experienced was NOT connected to his heart, nor had he had a stroke. A series of tests were ordered and he was admitted. On Tuesday and Wed a variety of tests looking for infection were done. So far they have all been negative. On Wed AM, his left arm miraculously began working almost 100%. Wed night, his right shoulder became sore and within an hour was unusable. Shortly thereafter, his right leg quickly became unusable. On Thursday morning, his left arm became mostly unusable. That’s where things stand at the moment. The doctors have pretty much ruled out infection and have called in a rheumatologist to look into a possible immune disorder.  We're setting this to facilitate communication. Jim appreciates any attention he can get (His words!!!!) Visitors are encouraged to add their comments. Karen

It's not exactly akin to graduating from hospice, but this might be one of the shorter lived Caring Bridge sites.Let's hope :=)
