Newest Update

Journal entry by Ashley Whitesell

Hi everyone & happy 2024- we hope your new year is off to a good start! We know it’s been quite sometime since we’ve had an update, so we wanted to give everyone the best one of all!

Negative. Negative. Negative. Jim had his repeat bone marrow test and we got the results back this week- negative, with no traces or signs of Leukemia. The doctor did 4 different tests to make sure and every one of them came back negative! So, Jim is officially in full remission and the leukemia cells are gone! The doctor said the results were better than expected, and this was the best news we could have hoped for!

So, what does that mean for the future? Even though leukemia is very treatable and he is in remission, there is still a chance that it could come back, especially if treatment is stopped. Jim’s doctor doesn’t want to take any chances, so he wants to continue doing IV chemo & oral chemo, but for a shorter period of time and longer intervals between treatments. This is more of a maintenance plan and we are expecting it to continue for at least the next year or two, and possibly for the rest of his life- it just depends on what results show over the next few years and how the doctor feels things are going.

With all of the above being said, Jim can gradually  go back to a normal routine & hopefully begin to travel again.

We wanted to end our updates on a positive note and can’t really think of anything more positive than this, so this will be our last update. The past year has been a whirlwind and a year filled with many ups & downs, but we want to thank each of you who took time out of your lives to visit at the hospital, send food, brings cards over, send gift cards, take rotations of sitting at the hospital, helping Mary with endless things, and most importantly, for all of your prayers- God is great and all of your prayers were felt everyday, through the good & bad days. Thank you all again for being on this journey with us- it truly takes a village and we wouldn’t have made it through without you!
