Jill’s Story

Site created on February 11, 2023

At Thanksgiving 2022, I discovered a concerning mass in my left breast.  I was able to get into my PCP just before Christmas and she referred me to Swedish for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound.  I wasn't able to get an appointment for February 15.  In early January, I realized the mass was still growing and there were some other signs that I needed to be seen sooner.  So I got the tests moved up.  The mammogram and ultrasound actually reveled 4 masses, two in each breast.  After each mass was biopsied, we discovered that the two on the left were indeed cancer, currently, the largest mass is approximately 3.5 inches.  One mass in the right is nothing of concern, but the other has a 20% of becoming cancerous at some point.  Fortunately, my doctors have assured me that my cancer is highly treatable, which is the best news possible in this situation.

The treatment plan begins with chemo.  I'll be receiving two different HER2 drugs and two different chemo drugs, once a week, every 3 weeks for 18 weeks. Chemo will begin on either the 24th or 27th of February.  After recovery from chemo, I'll have surgery.  I need a mastectomy on the left and at minimum a lumpectomy on the right.  A double mastectomy may be necessary, depending on what the genetics testing tells us.  I'm fully on board with a double mastectomy.  These things have nourished 4 beautiful babies, they have done their job.  If they are just going to be a liability, then they can just go.  After I recover from surgery, we'll do radiation.  Hopefully, that will be the end and I'll be cancer free!

So many of you have reached out asking how you can help.  Your words of love, support and encouragement truly mean everything.  I'll be using this page to post updates about my progress toward healing and to voice what our needs are and people can choose if/when to help based on their own needs and abilities. Thank you so much everyone for everything.  I know we'll get through this together.  No one fights alone.

Journal entry by Jill Paski-Weaver

TODAY WAS MY VERY LAST CANCER TREATMENT!!!!!!! My last date with Al, I broke it off with him today. I won't miss his beeping at me. I brought goodies for the nurses and front desk and wore my fight socks. Heidi at the front desk added a shark sticker to my wristband for being such a tough badass and then gave me the BEAUTIFUL necklace with my birthstone. I get to unpack my infusion bag and I rang that very last bell. It's not often that I'm at a loss for words but I found myself speechless through the tears today. We did it, you guys. 🩷
