Dear all,
I know I said I’d get back to you with more info.  We’ve been at St. Gertrude’s since Monday, and we only met with admissions today (Friday).  That is to say, Rob and Dad met with them, since people and therapists tend to drop by whenever without communicating to the family.  It’s been a tough transition and we are still figuring out how to navigate this system.  The standard of care is quite different than it was in hospice.  They are short staffed just like everywhere else in the medical community.  Therefore they are all business, and don’t have the time needed to allow mom to try to get across what she needs.
She began receiving therapy the day she arrived - speech, OT and PT.  That exhausts her, but will hopefully lead to strengthening her enough to sit in a wheelchair and have some time out of bed.
There have been some tearful moments, which is heartbreaking to see.  I’m not sure how much she understands of what we tell her about this place and the decision to put her here.  And of course we can only guess at what might be wrong.  We are hoping this gets better.
As far as visiting, there is no limit that I know of.  She is in room 280-1, but may be moving to a private room soon.  Mom’s therapy tends to happen before noon, so it may be easier to visit with her in the afternoon.  She needs to rest after the therapies for a little while.
