Journal

How has it been 5 months since my last update? Time flies, especially when you’re not in the throes of active treatment. Since I last wrote, a few things have happened -
  1. Grace and I visited my parents in Peachtree City for the 4th of July
  2. George, Grace and I went down to the Florida Panhandle for almost a week with my parents
  3. I finished the expansion process with my tissue expanders, and entered into a phase of “rest” before getting my implants.
  4. We spent 2 glorious weeks in Maine in August. We went on hikes, got on boats, saw wildlife, and spent time reading and relaxing
  5. We made it down to the Jersey Shore with George’s mom and sisters and their families
  6. I went back to work on August 23!
  7. I planned and executed my first event back at work. 140 people in Dallas, TX for our All Staff Retreat
  8. George and I spent 5 glorious days in the Dominican Republic
  9. I’ve uncovered new feelings and navigated the free fall that is post-active cancer treatment.
  10. I’ve enjoyed so many special moments with friends and family. Time outside, dinners out, pumpkin patches, playground meetups, birthday parties. It’s been wonderful to not feel so limited with my immune system
There’s so much in what I just shared. I could write an entry on each of them. Maybe I will. Who knows! But, the real reason why I popped on here is to let you know that tomorrow is another surgery day for me. Unlike other big days in the last year, this one is celebratory. Tomorrow, I get rid of the uncomfortable tissue expanders that were placed after my mastectomy and get my very own set of silicone implants! A girl’s dream!

I’ve been reassured that this surgery is minor compared to what I went through in May. There are no drains. They will use the same incisions that I had for that surgery. Unlike the 6 hours it took in May, this should at most be 90 minutes. I’m not even supposed to stay overnight. I will have restrictions for 6 weeks, but the pain should not be as intense. All good news. I’ll believe it when I experience it, but I am doing my best to not worry about it and take the word of my medical team. The Healing Hole will be resurrected (Harry Styles pillow included), and I am going to use my time off work - 6 weeks - to give my body the rest it needs and mentally process the crazy stuff that has happened in less than 12 months. I’ll probably also pop on here to write a few updates.

So, stay tuned. Throw up some prayers/vibes for an uncomplicated recovery, decisive selection of shows to stream, and cozy couch naps. I’ll let you know how I’m doing as soon as I can.
