Journal

Just wanted to share results with family and friends and close out this chapter of our lives that started a bit more than 9 months ago.

Jess went in for her bone marrow biopsy on May 30th, and has received the last of the results of those tests today finally.  She is cancer free!  Please see attached pics for detail.  What a huge piece of good news!

I was actually unaware of what a bone marrow biopsy entailed - but i watched the entire process up close in person, and wow it was pretty crazy.  First, numbing agents on skin, then probably 10 novocaine pokes down to the hip bone and around the area.  Then a doctor makes an incision and basically hand drills a hole with this twist auger to get through the bone to the marrow.  Its painful.  Tears were flowing hard.  Then they extract both hard, soft and liquid once they are past the bone.  The lab tech is in there with us as well and immediately stains multiple slides with real time media to take to their microscope, and the other 4 tubes of liquid marrow go away for further deeper testing (which takes a week or get results thus this message today).

Jess opted to do the voluntary 5th extraction which they give to the U of M oncology lab for research - of course she did!  Fun fact - Jess' first job out of college was working in that same oncology lab at the U of M as a junior scientist doing lab work on blood.  So she just donated research media to the new her, 20 yrs later.  Incredible.

Again, thanks to all for the support, and we wish you all a great summer and rest of 2023!
