Hi team,

Today was the day I learned whether my amazing donor candidate “K” (who’s been in testing for months!) was approved by the kidney committee.

Unfortunately, it was not good news. She was ruled out due to health reasons that arose during final imaging. However, I can’t thank her enough for being so generous and dedicated during this whole process. The world needs more people like “K”!!

There is a chance I may get a hepatitis C positive kidney fairly soon (yes, I would contract it during a transplant but there is a cure now). Because folks prefer not to get an infected kidney, that list is more like a year or two than the 3-5 year deceased donor list.

I’m grateful to my whole family for supporting my kidney journey, as well as friends and supporters I don’t even know.

The good news is that I will likely be able to stave off dialysis for another couple months. My kidney function is still in the failure range, but my electrolytes are holding - all except for phosphorus. That means Diet Coke and ice cream are out 😢 but we’re working on getting creative with the non-salty and non-sodium/potassium laden foods available (white rice 🍚, egg whites 🥚, white bread 🍞)…
