A couple of weeks ago we found out Jerry’s cells started outpacing the donor cells. Because the disease is coming back and the graft is not holding the medical team developed a new treatment plan. Jerry had one round of chemotherapy last week that included an infusion, shot and chemo pill. He had a round of red blood cell and platelets, first time in awhile.
Today he will have a bone marrow biopsy to see how his body responded to that treatment. Next week he will have another round of chemotherapy followed by radiation. After the second round of chemo he will receive a second stem cell transplant from the same donor.
Since Jerry is using the last bag of stem cells, Nebraska Medicine has requested additional stem cells from the donor. Praying the donor agrees. We definitely don’t want to use them, but it gives us hope to know they are there if we need them.
Stay vertical,
Elizabeth
