Journal entry by Kelly Henton —
Hello all! It’s been quite a while since we updated and that’s because Jerry is doing great! His recovery at home started slowly, as he spent much of his day attached to the feeding tube and he was very sore and tired. It took a few weeks but slowly Jerry was able to start to eat normal foods again and that seemed to make a world of difference and he started to become more himself. Poor guy would cook us all Sunday dinner but couldn’t eat it himself (I’m kidding!).
As the weeks went by and as he was able to eat more and more by mouth, he was able to wean himself off of the feeding tube fluids. Just a week or two ago he was weaned down enough for the tube to be removed! He said he was very grateful for that to be gone, of course!
Jerry also had a follow up appointment with some doctors at Mayo. There were tests and scans completed and the doctors have stated he is CANCER FREE!!! He is in a group of 25% that they feel he will not get cancer back.
We are so grateful for all the visitors, food drop offs, dining gift cards, calls, texts, and all of the care and support that was given to the family. Jerry was very hesitant to get the surgery in the first place but we are all beyond thankful that he changed his mind and got it done. We know it was not easy but he did it like a ROCKSTAR!!
