Jerod ’s Story

Site created on March 3, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. Jerod is passed out at work Monday February 24th shortly after the daily safety meeting. He hit his head on the cement, fracturing the bone above his right eye and part of his sinus. He woke briefly after the fall and called me to tell me an ambulance had been called and that he didn't know where they would take him. About 40 minutes later, I recieved a call from his phone, but it was his ER Doctor to tell me he was taken to St. Joseph's Medical center in Tacoma. Jerod had gone into cardiac arrest twice, once in the ambulance and once in the ER. He was diagnosed with an acute pulmonary embolism (blood clots in his lungs), an acute cranial hemorrhage (from the skull fracture), and cardiac arrest (twice). He also has a large blood clot in his left leg. He is being treated for pneumonia which showed up on Wednesday the 26th. The cranial hemorrhage has stabilized for now, but they are unable to use blood thinners for the blood clots until its healed. He had a filter placed near his naval, that protects his heart from the clots in the legs, on Saturday February 29th. Currently, he has yet to awaken for us, due to elevated heartrate and BP every time they reduce his sedation.

Having coffee break at Jerod's today. He loves his pumpkin spice! ☕️ They take very good care of him here at his family home. Unfortunately,  the level of care he needs is hard to get at home.
