At this point, Mom still had a cough & now some tightness which made her a bit short of breath when doing things. Anytime she tried to take more than a shallow breath, it would cause her to cough. First, we got some cough drops & cough syrup from the drug store which helped some, but the Dr prescribed some cough syrup with codeine in it which she uses at night.
February 2- We went in for Mom's liver biopsy & were out by 4pm. We were told to have her just take Tylenol. I got her home & she went to bed to rest.
February 3- I was scheduled to work & was not there quite an hour when she texted me that she was really sick. My mind swirled with possibilities & I expected to have to take her to the E.R. I drove like a mad woman, thank God I didn't get a ticket!
I checked her over & there were no apparent issues or bleeding due to the biopsy. After questioning her, I did not feel that we needed to go to the E.R. right then, but that her pain had gotten away from her.
I gave her Tylenol & something to eat because she hadn't gotten anything to eat for herself after coming home from the hospital. She ate a big meal of pancakes, eggs, & bacon before she left the hospital, & wasn't hungry in the evening. The problem was that she didn't keep up on taking the Tylenol.
After eating & a dose of Tylenol she felt better in about an hour. I stayed with her most of the day & spent the night with her.
Her appetite had started decreasing before all of this started but now we, my sister Sandy, my husband Trent & I, felt we needed to be making sure of her food intake each day. She has her morning routine down. She has her coffee & blood pressure medication, reads her Bible & then has her cereal. She doesn't cook anymore but will still fix a salad for herself or have something easy like soup. Sandy & I take turns taking her meals & my niece Ariel who is a wonderful cook, makes her yummy dishes that she & Sandy take to her on their days.
Her memory is an issue & I will write about that in a separate post.
February 8- Lung biopsy results said that the lesion was abnormal but not cancerous.
February 16- After some healing time, she had the lung biopsy. She never had any discomfort or issues from this at all for which we were all grateful because she was quite uncomfortable after the liver biopsy.
February 23- Mom & I had a video appointment with her Dr in which she notified us that the lesions on her lungs are in fact, cancer.
Her reaction to this? "Well, isn't that something?" Later, she said, "I guess all that cigarette smoking caught up with me."
*** Mom seems to forget sometimes, & will say they are "spots" or "holes" in or on her lungs. I had a talk with her about this again recently & will post about that in the March post.
