Jeremy’s Story

Site created on April 25, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On April 15, 2022 I suffered a grand mal seizure.  Shortly thereafter it was determined I had a good-sized brain tumor.  I had very successful surgery to remove the tumor on April 19th at United Hospital by a talented surgeon, Meysam Kebriaei.  Although the surgery could not have gone better, it was determined that the tumor was cancerous and the type of cancer that would be technically qualified as terminal/incurable.  Even if all the tumor is removed, the expectation is that there are microscopic cancer cells in the healthy brain tissue around the tumor and that the cancer will come back, with “when” being the only question.  This type of cancer comes with some scary predictions around life expectancy of 18 months on average.

I received radiation and chemotherapy through the Givens Brain Tumor Center at Allina.  I am now 19 months (overachiever!) in to this journey and have been blessed to have amazing health on the journey thus far, however, I recently have had a recurrence of cancer.  Trish and I are just looking at this as an obstacle that will soon be in the rear view mirror.  There are many treatment options left, including another brain surgery (currently scheduled for November 20) as well as chemotherapy and "alternative" options and medicines.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jeremy Hedberg

Hello All -

We just wanted to let folks know that I had a clean/unchanged MRI yesterday (4/10) which is a blessing from God.  I have now completed three rounds of chemotherapy post the 2nd surgery.  Experiencing a lot of fatigue and some "wooziness/nausea" but able to do most things normally.  This is strong chemo with six rounds being the maximum anyone can take.  Therefore, before starting every round there is an evaluation to determine when/if to start another round.  I will likely start another round in two weeks if nothing changes for the worse in my blood counts, etc.

Next week I will go to Germany to receive another dose of the vaccine they have developed there.  For those unfamiliar, I am trying an experimental vaccine in Germany that is tailor made specifically to fight/kill any of the cancer cells in my body and leave everything else alone.  It is a vaccine that would only work for me because it has made based on "my tumor".  It is exciting and does not have physical side effects, so praying it gets some traction in my body.

We will look to update this after the next MRI (end of May).  In the meantime, Trish and I believe strongly in the power of prayer so thank you for all of them and we humbly ask you to continue them.
