Jennifer’s Story

Site created on January 24, 2022

Do you know Jen? Maybe she is your family member, friend, physical therapist, fur-parent, church-in-the-park neighbor, fellow Calvalry Lutheran congregant, triathlon competitor, or Waterama 5K nemesis.

On Monday, January 17, 2022, Byron took Jen to the emergency room for extreme exhaustion and balance issues. An MRI revealed a brain tumor and Jen was transferred to Houston Methodist where she received back surgery last winter. A preliminary biopsy from brain surgery on Thursday, January 20 revealed a Grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme tumor (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glioblastoma). Verification (or invalidation) of this diagnosis by an external lab will determine what comes next.

Many things about Jen's earthbound life (including her next trip to the lake) are up in the air right now. But this is certain: Jen is more thankful than words can express for salvation in Jesus Christ and the loving support of every single one of you.

Hi Everyone.  Over the last couple days several of you have touched base because you were having trouble with making donations on the "Foundation for Metabolic Cancer Therapies" website that was referenced in Jen's obituary.  I just tried it myself and found out that the link is no longer working.  We contacted Dr. Seyfried about the issue, and his IT people confirmed that the website is temporarily down.  They are taking steps to get it back up and running, but were not able to say exactly when it would be fixed.  He did say that in the meantime, if people wanted to instead donate by check, they could make it out to "Foundation for Metabolic Cancer Therapies" and mail it to the following address:

Foundation for Metabolic Cancer Therapies
3213 West Main Street #256
Rapid City, SD  57702

I truly apologize for the hassle this is causing everyone.
