Jeni’s Story

Site created on August 5, 2021

Thank you for joining Jeni's Hip Recovery Team. As you know, Jeni's life mission is to create community through rhythm. Now it's time for us to come together for her.

Three years ago, Jeni started feeling pain in her left hip. After countless doctors, tests, therapies, and other efforts to diagnose and treat what was going on, the full picture and pathway have finally become clear. Jeni has severe osteoarthritis and is getting her hip replaced on August 20, 2021.

Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones deteriorates over time. For Jeni, this has meant increasingly debilitating pain that has impacted everyday activities — including sitting, standing, walking, and lying down — as well as her mental well-being. And as a single mom of a spirited eight-year-old and the owner of a rhythm event business that relies on her body to teach, this has been an especially challenging time.

We know Jeni as a joyful, energetic, and engaging person and can help ease the transition toward reclaiming her body and vitality. Visit the Ways to Help tab above to sign up for these opportunities:

1) Join the Meal Train, where you can also sign up to help with Izzy, including school drop-off/pick-up and play dates, as well as errands and household chores.
2) Contribute to a GoFundMe to offset Jeni's inability to work for a few months.
3) Share your good wishes, especially during this era of isolation and physical distancing.

Thank you for showing you care! With love from Team Jeni.

Journal entry by Jeni Swerdlow

I'm happy to report that my body is making huge improvements! The pain has (mostly) subsided and I can finally sleep comfortably.

I'm up and walking around my neighborhood, with hiking on the horizon. Physical therapy is now in full swing. My body is feeling stronger and more stable every day.

Best news of all - the doctor just told me I can resume swimming, baths, and HOT TUBS!!! Still no dancing, biking, or yoga for another month but hey did I mention I can soak in a HOT TUB?!?!

I'm so grateful for such a thoughtful and caring community. I hope to see you on a biking/hiking trail or dancefloor soon!
