Hi all-
Charlie and Jeff here. We haven't written in a while, but Jeff's recovery has been progressing rather nicely. He is still juggling numerous medical appointments. He graduated from his outpatient physical therapy sessions last week. He continues being followed at the Heart Institute on the Abbott Northwestern campus. His heart failure doctor has said that he has reduced heart functioning, but is stable enough to begin intensive cardiac rehab.  This begins next week. This will stress and strengthen his heart for improved stamina. He is able to get around without needing a wheelchair, walker or any other assistance devices. Though he still tires easily, he is much more stable on his feet. We even got to the MN State Fair, but did use a scooter for those long days.
Last week, he passed his drivers' evaluation and is able to drive to most of his appointments. A BIG THANK YOU to family and friends who have provided transport assistance over the past couple of months.
Today marks 5 months since the day of his surgery. It has been quite the journey. 2018 has not been boring. Full of lots of emotion, prayers and fear, but with all that, it cannot outweigh the sense of celebration. From the first time Jeff opened his eyes after being on life support, being taken off the ventilator and breathing on his own, breathing fresh air, and taking his first steps. Each accomplishment and hurdle that he has had to overcome- and to see where he is at now in his recovery, it's amazing.
We ran into one of Jeff's co-workers this past weekend. She had not seen him since before our Ireland trip. She started to cry because she couldn't believe how good he looked. I still have pinch myself as well.
We would like to thank all of Jeff's Family and Charlie's Family for their endless love and support. A big thank you to our friends and neighbors as well- for all the encouragement, hugs, counsel, soups and salads, cat care assistance, weeding of the garden, toilet fixing, mowing the lawn, and love & support. It is quite humbling to fathom, but so appreciated. And lastly, for all the prayers from near and far, we thank you from the bottom of our slightly damaged hearts.
This will likely be our last post on the Caring Bridge site barring any unforeseen circumstances. Jeff can be reached on his cell phone or Facebook if you would like to connect. He is still open for visitors.
