Journal entry by Heidi Erickson

It’s been a roller coaster the last few days.

Yesterday, Jeff’s left side decided it just wasn’t going to work how he wanted it to. He did some pt and ot, but there was very little movement on the left side on his own. He did take a few steps with a walker and 2 assistants. His left hand does not have much movement or control. After his PT sessions he was pretty worn out and slept a lot.

Today, he is still pretty tired and has been sleeping most of the day. PT came in and he has a new fancy walker. He took a couple assisted steps with that. His left arm is swelling due to no movement so he has a cute sleeve he gets to wear.

He was just moved to the 5th floor- we have more space and less visitor restrictions. However, at this time we would like him to rest so he can put his energy on rehabilitation.

Unfortunately, due to his left side not functioning he is being referred to a rehabilitation facility. We are hopeful with intensive rehabilitation he will regain function of his left side. Due to HSHS closing, the best option for him is to go to Duluth.
