October 29, 2019
This was the 6th and final treatment for Jeff’s DLBCL Lymphoma. The disease is gone and the horror of these past few months will soon be a distant memory. This day was about celebrating. Jeff asked Dr. Johnson for a photo (attached to this post) and I’m so glad he did. This man has provided us such comfort with his knowledge and his wit.  His love for Christ is evident in the way he conducts himself and in the way he speaks to his patients.  He wears wings.

After a 7 hour day at West Cancer Center, Jeff's treatment was over and we were set to walk out of the infusion room for the last time.  But first, we made one final detour out to the 3rd floor courtyard.  There, our family and friends were waiting to cheer and give praise for God's healing.  We rejoiced as Jeff was able to ring the bell!  He is cancer free!  What seems like such a simple moment, rang out loudly into the dark night as a reminder to trust in God's plan.  Dr. Johnson had the knowledge and experience.  Jeff had the drive and determination.  Family and Friends had the hope and the encouragement.  But only God was in charge of this detour.

So what now?  Medically, Jeff will have followup appointments with Dr. Johnson every 4 months for 2 years, then every 6 months until year 6.  Physically, Jeff will continue to get stronger and his body will bounce back over time.  Spiritually, I don't think we can ever be the same, only better.

We are starting our after cancer life by making plans again.  Nothing needs to be on hold any longer.  We can plan vacations and fun and enjoy life.  We can be normal again.  As I write this, Jeff is outside disguised as a scarecrow wearing an old man mask.  He's scaring children on Halloween.  Because that's what he loves!  He has always been a big kid at heart and he's not stopping now.
