Newest Update

Journal entry by Jean Moseley

Dear Ones,

I am writing with a couple of bits of very good news!  This news is a great health report and a happiness update.  My PET scan from yesterday revealed “No evidence of disease”.  This is the best news one can hope for!  My 6 month surveillance program is right on track.  My current medical oncologist is on maternity leave, so I will see one of her colleagues at the end of March for the clinical exam.

My second bit of good news is related to my living situation.  Many people have asked, over the last 28 years, “why I wanted to continue to live in that big house”.  My answer was always the same, “I will move when it is easier to live somewhere else than it is to stay home”.  Well, believe or not, my apple tree is responsible for my change of heart.  Instead of producing 2-4 boxes of apples, last year, it produced 22 boxes!  I delivered boxes to all the senior centers in the area, our church family, and a gleaning group, after friends and family had their fill.  My final solution was to have a friend prune the tree with a chain saw!  That did the trick, but I realized I couldn’t go through another harvest like that.  That began the hunt for another place to live.

In the midst of surgery, 2 courses of chemotherapy one year apart, and radiation therapy; my home needed a new roof, new patio and new furnace.  Late last summer I placed a solar system on my roof in an effort to do my part to reduce global warming.  The responsibility of caring for, and maintaining a home and large yard has become just too much for this 72 year old body!

My quest for a new residence began with the decision to RENT an apartment, avoiding all maintenance concerns.  A dear friend suggested that my home was my “hobby”.  I was surprised, but realized I spent a lot of time caring for the home and property, but not by choice.  I  look forward to be able to turn down the heat,  lock the door and go out and about.  I conducted a tri-county search for just the right place.  By Thursday of the coming week, I will have spent my first night in the new apartment.  I am moving to Wilsonville.  The new contact information is below.  Porteraliving.com has a video presentation, if anyone is curious.  The model shown is the floor plan I chose, 2 bedroom/2 bath, plus a small den.

Happiness and peace are wonderful feelings once a hard decision has be made.  I have loved living in our home for 32 years, but the 28 years without Steve haven’t been easy.  Now is the time to explore life with less day to day responsibilities.  I want my church family to know I am not leaving you!  I will happily travel Hwy 217 on Sunday mornings and other times, as needed for church events. I am grateful that most of my new life will allow me to avoid Hwy 217!  That alone is reason to celebrate.  With family and close friends in Wilsonville, Tigard and Lake Oswego, I have spent entirely too much of my life on 217, a constant construction zone.

For those wondering about the plan for selling the house, please know I chose to get settled in my new place before I involved the timetables and concerns of others.  I will be selling 9870 this Spring.  I have a possible plan for the sale, but time will tell.

For those of you worried about the announcement about a pending update, I apologize for your inability to receive the update.  For some inexplicable reason, I posted a partial update and then it was immediately deleted.   Many of you believe you were responsible for this problem.  Not true!  I did it all by myself, but don’t ask me how.  So sorry!  This is the first moment I have had to re-write and post this message.
