Jay’s Story

Site created on May 24, 2023

My journey with cancer began in the fall of 2018 when I was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I was so blessed to have all my treatments in Thomasville, less than a mile from our home.  Many, many people prayed, prepared meals, and supported us throughout the treatment process.

In January of 2020, after a clean CT scan, I had a biopsy and extensive pathology tests which determined that my cancer had returned. This time, I had the unique experience of receiving my treatments during the “COVID Shutdown” and learned just how thankful I was to be able to receive chemo and radiation.

In March of this year, after receiving another clean CT scan, it was determined that my cancer had returned yet again as a skin lesion. After a consult at M.D. Anderson Medical Center in April, we are now back in Houston preparing for CAR T cell therapy and will probably be here through the end of July. We have a wonderful apartment about a mile from the main hospital through an amazing organization called Houston Haven.

We have been blessed by so many of you with your prayers, acts of kindness, service, love, and communication throughout this process. We have seen God working at so many points and know the ultimate outcome will be positive in ways we can’t even fathom. We hope this site will make it easier to keep all of you informed more consistently as we continue our way through this journey.

Thank you for your love and support!

Journal entry by Jay DuBose

We are incredibly happy to be home and settling into our new normal. I know that we are only here because of being within God’s will. All of you, by your prayers, thoughts, cards, contacts, and generous gifts have manifested the Kingdom. Carla and I have felt uplifted and many people we have encountered have been inspired by the massive support you all have shown.

Cancer and my treatment have humbled me. I hope to move forward and live a life worthy of all the love and care that you all have showered on us. I will be gradually building up my strength and energy, and look forward to seeing you all in the months ahead!
