Jason’s Story

Site created on July 14, 2023

Jason got into a motorcycle accident on his way to work yesterday (7/13/23), no helmet. He was air lifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robinsdale. He needed 2 blood transfusions, one on the ride here and one once he got here. He has brain bleeds in multiple levels through multiple parts of his brain. He fractured the left temporal bone in the skull, broke left his shoulder blade, left collarbone, and ribs 2-8. He’s got some gnarly road rash, his left eye is completely swollen shut. He is on a breathing and feeding tube, and unconscious. On the bright side, when they kind of woke him up to do a physical test he opened his left eye a little bit, gave a half assed thumbs up and moved his legs. But honestly, it too early to tell anything and we’ll have more of an idea about the kind of quality of life he’ll have in 3-7 days.

Journal entry by Michael Pierce

Jason.

He has made incredible progress since the accident.   His care teams have been second to None.   The teams at North Memorial, and the Minneapolis VA (4J) have definitely made the difference in his recovery.  Jason still has a long road of recovery ahead, but there is so much to be thankful for including the strength and determination he has shown.

He has been released from the VA and is headed for home.
