Jason’s Story

Site created on June 18, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

It has been almost 6 months since Jay was diagnosed with brain cancer. It has been a difficult journey since Jay lost his ability to effectively communicate and have full use of the right side of his body. All of this while fighting cancer. He has worked hard to improve his communication through speech therapy and to gain strength back through Physical and Occupational therapies. He has had many ups and downs along the way. In the beginning once he could regain some speech he said “I’m not giving up.” These words are the foundation of fighting cancer. It is an uphill battle. He is climbing up. There have been some stops along the way but Jay continues to push forward and consistently improve. I tell him how proud I am of his courage and strength. He is a man with a lot to live for.

As a family we have experienced many challenges and changes. I have come to be Jays primary caretaker but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Jay and I have always been best friends and love being together so the idea of spending all of my time with him despite the circumstances was the way I knew it was supposed to be. You know you love someone but in the face of crisis and tragedy you discover what that really looks like. It’s heavy, it’s emotional, it’s raw. It doesn’t get realer than this. So we try hard to balance treatments, therapies, keeping up with with therapies at home and all that comes with being a family of five with three active kids. We laugh and we cry (a lot) but we manage to get through every day; one foot in front of the other. We have needed a lot of support to help our family to function as it’s been quite the juggling act and we are beyond grateful for those who have stepped up to help. We are also grateful for our community and the generosity we have experienced.

Many of you have asked how you can help and sometimes it’s difficult to convey the ways in which we need it. It can be difficult to reach out in the everyday overwhelm of life. So many of you keep in touch consistently to see how Jay is doing. We appreciate it greatly even if I take days or weeks to respond. This is why I’ve created this site! To help bridge that gap and to share Jays incredible journey. Although it’s hard to swallow most days I personally believe that there is always a bigger plan; one we can’t always see or understand. Though Jays journey is incredibly frustrating and unfair there is a story to be told. One filled with lots of hope, strength, faith and love and one that is meant to be shared ❤️
