Journal entry by Jann Olsten —
This past Tuesday was spent at the Mayo clinic, undergoing a series of tests as part of my 3 month evaluation following surgery. You may recall that both my prostate and bladder were found to be cancerous, and while both were removed there nevertheless exists the possibility that microscopic cancer cells remain lurking somewhere in my body. The tests, including a CT scan, blood tests, and even something called a "nuclear bone scan injection," all produced negative findings, meaning no cancer was detected - good news, of course.
I'll return in another three months for a repeat of these tests. If negative, I'll return every six months thereafter for three years. If, as expected (by me, at least) the results remain negative after three years, the likelihood of any recurrence is negligible and I'll be considered "cured." The odds of this, I've been assured, are quite good.
So, good news for now, with every expectation that that will continue. And, I've now been cleared to return to normal physical activities, meaning golf - with an appropriate adjustment to my handicap, I presume - is once again on my agenda. Thanks to each of you for your concern, support and prayers, all of which are appreciated by my family and me.
