Jan’s Story

Site created on January 27, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Hello everyone my name is Jennifer Hartmann. I am Jan’s daughter. I will be keeping the website up to date with details of what is going on so everyone can be in the loop. Please feel free to share this site with anyone that would like to be updated on her progress.

Here is a little backstory. In 2000 she had found a lump in her left breast. She had biopsy and found out it was cancer. She had a lumpectomy and axillary dissection. She did radiation and chemo. She was cancer free for 18 years until she went in for her routine mammogram December 3rd 2018. She was called back for more views. She had a biopsy and found out that it is cancer again. This time it is different Invasive ductal carcinoma grade 3 triple negative. The plan is to have a mastectomy of her left side and to do chemo. We do not have the surgery scheduled yet but we will let everyone know when it is once we schedule it.

I don’t think I need to tell everyone what a great person she is but I will anyway. She is one of the most compassionate and caring persons I know. She is so giving!!! Every year for Christmas she makes a project for everyone usually involving pictures. The thoughtfulness of these projects is so special to all who receive them. The look on the persons face when they see what she has made is what she thrives on. That is just one example of what makes her so special. She has recently started making throw quilts with her friend Judi that they are donating to the Amita Health Alexian Brothers Hospice center.

She is a fighter! Please keep her in your prayers as she starts this Journey. You can show your support by commenting words of encouragement!! If anyone has story’s they would like to share or photos please do so.

Hello everyone, wanted to update the story. Unfortunately my Moms Breast Cancer is back. She has a small lump on her left side near her arm pit that she found in December. She had a biopsy and found out it is the same cancer she had in 2019. It is a recurrence so it is considered stage 4. She has had a PET scan and it is only showing that the lump is the only place it is right now thank goodness. The plan now is to get a port placed on Monday and then start chemo on Friday March 26th. The chemo will be once a week for 8-12 weeks. She is scheduled to get her second COVID vaccine on Saturday the 20th.

Please keep her in your prayers. I will post updates.

Journal entry by Jennifer Hartmann

Today was a big day!! The last of 30 radiation treatments!! They have a bell that you ring after your radiation treatments are done. She got to ring the bell today!!! She did amazing and made a lot of new friends. One in particular was Tom the valet at the cancer center. She got to know him really well because she would sit outside on a bench every day for a few hours and they would talk a lot. He is an amazing person made her time there not as boring. Barb is in town and was able to be there for the ringing of the bell. It’s a big deal and I was so glad I was able to be a part of it too!!! She is one tough woman to have been able to tolerate all she has. The next step is to heal from the radiation and then discuss what is next.
