Journal entry by Graham Neal —
Mom's recent scans showed that all her tumors are "stable" - no growth or spread. Everyone was relieved and somewhat surprised, as we've been told that immunotherapy does not typically have "sustained positive results" for the type of cancer she has. Thankfully, she lives in a wonderful neighborhood and has many neighbors who check in on her, bring meals, and take her on errands when she has the energy.
Unfortunately Mom's memory and cognition over the last few months has been declining. She had a brain MRI and EEG in early March that came back clear, which is a positive, but does not reveal any culprit for her confusion and forgetfulness. She saw her neurologist last week for a cognitive abilities test and that resulted in her being recommended to a neuropsychiatrist. We're waiting to hear more about what those appointments would entail.
For any that have called and/or texted Mom and never heard back, she often doesn't answer the phone and even if she does, is likely to forget the conversation afterwards. We assure you the kind words and prayers are heard. The lack of response is indicative of her short term memory loss.
We are so appreciative of everyone's love and care for Mom. The meal train and gift cards have been so helpful. Some folks have asked about donating to help out with expenses; if you would like to do so, you can click on this link to reach the GoFundMe we set up for her. (Donating on the CaringBridge site actually goes towards CaringBridge's business expenses and not Mom... their wording is a little tricky)
