Janet’s Story

Site created on June 17, 2023

In late 2022 Janet started experiencing some intermittent bilateral numbness and tingling in her feet. In the early months of 2023 her family continued to notice concerning changes in her affect and memory recall. One test led to another which eventually led to a neurosurgeon’s office (The same awesome neurosurgeon who operated on Erika’s neck back in 2001 during her bout with histiocytosis. Coincidence? We think not.)

Janet underwent a stereotactic biopsy which was complicated by a difficult time taking out her breathing tubes and a post-operative fever. Janet has since discharged back home and has been stable. Janet and her family met with her care team, and she was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumor called glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is an aggressive brain cancer. Because of the location and nature of the tumor, it is non-operable. She will be starting an intense radiation and oral chemotherapy schedule in the coming weeks.

In Janet’s  words, “Everyone has a journey, and this is mine…my adventure!”
