Journal entry by Jane Sockrider —
Good morning,
I’ve attached the inside of the bulletin from our Celebration of Jane’s life. The front had a picture of a smiling Jane, and the back was the long version of her obituary.
Nate, Matt, Jane’s sister and brother Linda and Terry, and me, were surrounded all weekend by the love and support of our families, memories galore, laughter and tears.
The service was perfect. Pastor John, as usual, was inspiring leading worship, as well as being a huge help to me planning the service using some of Jane’s favorite Bible passages and hymns. Vernon Lutheran’s bell choir, praise band, New Life Singers, pianist Sue Johnson, and Ann Morrow, our family’s harpist who also played the cello, guitar, rang and sang. Music was so important to Jane, and these talented, loving, giving friends made the day extra special.
Memories were shared during the Celebration. Some were sent in the last few weeks, some were taken from your Caring Bridges posts; these were read by Pastor John. Others came orally from family and friends Saturday. If we’d had used all the memories you shared the service would have been twice as long.
Those of us who love Jane miss her so much. My hope is we can continue to be reminded of her by things we see everyday, things like smiles that come from the heart, and beautiful music, and the love we show each other and the rest of God’s creation, and kindness, and fun. I know I’ve said this before, but Jane’s illness and death, especially during the pandemic, was terrible. Thanks to you, and the rest of our families, our church families, our friends, our faith, we’re doing ok. You are loved and appreciated.
