Journal

Hey, everyone! We thought it was about time for an update on Jane (mom).

On Tuesday, February 23, mom's surgeon performed a re-excision of skin/tissue on the lower part of her left breast to make sure that they were able to get ALL of the cancer during her mastectomy. That area of skin tested NEGATIVE for any cancer cells!

Mom had follow -up appointments with her reconstructive surgeon and regular surgeon on Tuesday, March 2nd. Both doctors were really happy with what they saw! Mom is healing great with minimal pain. She even got her drains out that day, which she was SUPER happy about as those were causing some discomfort.

This past Friday, March 5th, Mom met with a radiation oncologist and her physician's assistant who, along with mom, decided that radiation therapy would NOT be needed or beneficial given my mom's excellent cancer prognosis overall.  Which leads me to this next bit of amazing news!

There's a test they run which produces an Oncotype score. This score indicates the probability of recurrence of cancer over 9 years. My mom's recurrent score is 10 out of 100, so that is a phenomenal score! The distant recurrence risk at 9 years is a piddly 3%, so this means that the probability of the cancer coming back is very very low. Lastly, because of all of these other results and mom's successful mastectomy,  her chemotherapy benefit score is less than 1%.

We are so thankful that God has written this story with these results for my mom.  Aside from feeling tired, she is feeling well overall and is able to do a lot of things on her own. She's especially excited to be able to drive again soon! Thank you all so much for your continued support!
