Journal entry by Jane Remsen

My meditation app reminded me this morning that "It's progress that matters, whatever the pace." (How does the app know exactly what I need in that moment?  Weird.)

The past two weeks have been bittersweet. I am recovering really well, but I am frustrated with my restrictions.  It’s an exercise in patience…something I’m not very good at, but which I am working on!

The really good news is that my energy is great - I can do most things with only the occasional nap, and I am getting back in to my pre-stem cell transplant activities, yoga, and exercise.  I feel really normal, and I'm so grateful for that.

However, my white cell counts are about half of what they should be, so I am still significantly immune-compromised. As much as I would like to interact with the post-COVID world, I have to keep apart. I am stuck with the familiar pandemic restrictions for the next few months, and I am really missing my friends, and hugging, and dinner parties, and dining out, etc.  As society gets back to pre-COVID new normal, I have to wait a bit longer.

My doctor says I should have a functioning immune system in 3 to 6 months, but I'm going with 3 months. 😀 I am hoping that by mid-September I will have the white cells I need, as well as a COVID vaccine, and things will return to mostly normal for me too.

This really is my last CaringBridge entry. Thank you all for all the texts, emails, support, positive thoughts and prayers for me on this journey. I know it made--and is continuing to make--a big difference. 🥰

Love,
Jane
