OBITUARY:
Jane Massie, age 72, of Sierra Vista, AZ (formerly of Richfield and Shakopee, MN) passed away unexpectedly on September 2, 2023.
Jane was born on May 14, 1951 in Winona, MN. She graduated from Cotter High School in 1970 and married her high school sweetheart, Steve Massie. Steve enlisted in the Navy which took them to live in Long Beach, CA where he was stationed. After the Navy, they returned home to Minnesota to be close to family and help Steve’s Dad run some Country Kitchen restaurants. They settled in Shakopee, MN where they raised their family. After their restaurant days were over, Jane worked a variety of jobs in the circuit board industry, with her last job being an Account Manager for the Bureau of Engraving.
Jane was a fun loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family – especially the Fourth of July pool parties and Christmas Eve Bingo. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan. Attending their sporting events, playing board games, splashing in the pool or just hanging out with them. The bond they had was beyond special.
Jane loved to play cards and had a special group of friends at her condo in Richfield, MN that would play almost every other day. In June of 2023, Jane decided she was tired of the cold and snow and moved to Sierra Vista, AZ. She enjoyed her short time there meeting new people, playing bingo, furnishing her new house and soaking in the AZ sun.
Throughout their lives, Jane and Steve had many beloved pets. They both always cherished the poem, the “Rainbow Bridge.” In the poem it says they will meet their pets once again in the afterlife and they will all cross the Rainbow Bridge into heaven together. We can see Jane and Steve holding each other’s hand surrounded by all their pets. Both happy and healthy.
Jane is survived by: Daughter: Heather Blumer (Rich), Son: Travis Fladmark (Jerry), Grandchildren: Carson and Amanda Blumer, Siblings: Steve Wieczorek (Sue) and Peggy Larson (Tim); Cats: Eli and Sophie and many other special in-laws, nephews and nieces.
DONATION INFORMATION:
Jane had two adorable Siamese cats named Eli and Sophie, each about 14 years old. While they are overall fairly healthy they do struggle with kidney and dental issues. They came into her life from an amazing woman named Megan, aka “The Cat Lady”. She runs a nonprofit cat sanctuary, Basils Cradle, in Minnesota for special-needs cats. She has graciously offered to take Eli and Sophie and give them the best life possible aside from being with our mom. She relies on donations to keep running and helping these cats. So, in honor of our mom, we would appreciate any donation you can make. There is a great website for charity called GiveMN.org. It is safe, reliable and can provide you with an electronic receipt for tax purposes. See the information below.
