So I know I haven't sent anything in about 60 days. It's been a very long rough journey. I went to surgery on the 22nd of September for the last embolization surgery. The very next day I went in and had my craniotomy. They were also able to remove both aneurysms during this as well. The whole chunk that was removed was 4 in x 2 in by 1 in and they were able to remove all of this along with the AVM in one piece. Then then following day, day 3, I had the final surgery which was to go in and check to make sure things were all falling into place I'm working properly before they close me up for the last time. I then slept for almost 2 days and was in ICU recovery for 3 days total and then moved into a step down unit for a couple days, and then moved into private room for two more days. During that time I lost full use of my whole right side from the very tip of my head to my ear to my neck all the way down my side all the way down to my toes. I had nothing. Everything was just limp and unresponsive. In those days after my surgery, it was a parent that it would be very slow recovery for my right side. I was then moved to University of Rochester golisano rehab and let me be the first to tell you, they are top notch. They got me up and moving on a steady regimen of pt, ot, speech therapy. Up first thing in the morning breakfast and then right down to therapy. Until lunch time, break for lunch, and then right back at it until right before dinner. I immediately saw good response from my body. And since then until I came home 4 weeks ago, it has been nothing but consistent improvement. I couldn't have asked for a better team of doctors therapists and everyone else in between. I was able to come home with a walker and a cane. They set me up with in-home therapy right away one week after I got home and have been doing just as good with that. I just had my last home visit yesterday. And I'll start my outpatient therapy on the 30th.
I'm able to walk and have almost 70% feeling in my leg and closer to 80 to 85% feeling in my hand right arm and right side. My husband and other family members tell me they see improvements everyday, but I don't see it as much as they do. But I'll take their word for it, and be happy with the upward steps that I am achieving. My memory, cognitive functions, walking, handwriting etc, still need a good amount of work yet. I am unable to drive, or even walk alone for that matter LOL. But I have hopes that in the new year I'll be a brand new person and hopefully be able to get back to some normalcy.  Fingers crossed I continue to make strides and not hit any plateaus or walls. (No pun intended lol)
I couldn't have done it without my family and friends by my side and the wonderful medical team that helped me get to where I am so far. Thank you ❤️
