Journal entry by Megan Haynes —
It's been a year since I updated everyone, so I thought I would add a new update! Jane continues to do well and make progress. There have been some ups and downs, but Jane is still improving.
Ups:
- Jane can read! She got some special reading glasses that have a prism lens to help with double vision in one eye. She has been devouring books.
- Jane has "graduated" from physical therapy for now because she was leveling out with her progress. She walks with her walker/ rollator and sometimes without it if she has something to hang on to.
- I have spotted Jane going for solo walks in the neighborhood! She's glad to have the independence and strength to go for walks on her own.
- We've been going to the movies! David and I have taken Jane to the movie theater to watch some films. It's a favorite place for Jane, and we love sharing that time with her.
Downs:
- Jane has fallen several times in the last year. No serious injuries, but sometimes it sets her back on her recovery journey. Falling is always a scary risk; we hope that she won't fall any more as she continues to get stronger and now has the right glasses for everyday use.
- Navigating emails and phone communication can still be tricky for Jane. If you've reached out to her and haven't heard back, try again, or give her a call.
The other day, I was feeling a little down about the loss of my mother, who passed away last July. That day, out of the blue, I got this sweet text from Jane:
"Despite my self-involvement, it has not eluded me that you have had a tough year. Losing your mom, sending your oldest off to college. Hope we can talk about that."
What a gift that Jane has made such a remarkable recovery and can still send me texts like that. We are all still so thankful for your love and support.
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Jane's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
