Jane’s Story

Site created on May 26, 2019

Thank you all for caring about my mom and for all your prayers, concerns, phone calls, messages and help through this time in her life. We appreciate it more than you know. Here is how this all began:

Beginning in January, my mom was experiencing some pain that she thought was stemming from her sciatica. When she had sciatica pain in the past, her acupuncturist was able to get rid of it very fast. Her pain progressively got worse and her acupuncturist told her she thought her back was broken and that the issue was moving upward. She asked her to get an X-ray.  We finally got her into Urgent Care in March to get an X-ray. The doctor said it wasn't broken, but that she had compression. This was a very frustrating time for her as we weren't really getting any answers and her primary care physician was booked. After a couple more visits to Urgent Care, and a visit to the ER, they finally got her an emergency appointment with her Primary Care Physician on May 3, 2019. This is when things started moving quickly. We were referred to Physical Medicine that same day. Once we saw the Physical Medicine doctor, he got her in for an MRI that same day as well. A week later, her Physical Medicine doctor called to say her MRI was abnormal, and they needed another one, along with a CT scan and bloodwork for Multiple Myeloma. She got everything done STAT and those results were in very quickly. This is when we found out that she had Multiple Myeloma. She has fractures in her back caused by the Multiple Myeloma, however, the pain she is experiencing is from the Cancer itself, not the fractures.

I will be updating and journaling as we go along...

Love,
Katey
