Journal entry by Mike Resendez —
Good evening everyone. It’s been awhile since we last updated you all on how mom is doing. It’s been a roller coaster to say the least.
Mom has been discharged since our last update and is home. The plan on discharge was to get a referral for home care services, PT, OT, and speech. Unfortunately, the referral never came through and mom was discharged without continued therapy.
So, where did that put us? Well, Phil has been staying with mom for almost four weeks now. He has done a great job at being there and helping with tasks that are difficult. Mom’s thumbs have been in a lot of pain since being home and everyday tasks are not easy. As mom says, “Enjoy having use of your thumbs.”.
Mom has made progress even though it’s been slow without home services. She still has some balance issues but is walking up stairs a lot better.
Yesterday we finally heard that home services were finally approved. Mom will now be getting PT, OT, speech, and other home services. Her first PT session went well and we are looking forward more.
Mom does have a follow up with the orthopedic surgeon on Thursday, December 22nd. We are hoping to get some answers on the thumb pain. Please be aware that if you text mom she might not get back to you right away because of the pain in her thumbs.
That is it for now. We appreciate the support and will update again in a little while. Have a happy holidays!
