Janea’s Story

Site created on November 20, 2019

I was diagnosed with a large meningioma on the right side of my brain in September 2019.   A meningioma is usually a benign (mine was) and slow growing brain tumor.  The tumor doesn’t actually arise from within the brain but is classified as a brain tumor because of the impact it has on the brain, nerves and blood vessels within.  I had surgery to remove as much as they could of the meningioma (Earl, we called him) and then Cyberknife radiation in March 2021 when a small amount of regrowth was noted.  When the meningioma was originally discovered on MRI, there was also another area on the left side in my brain they wanted to follow but weren't concerned with at the time because of the large meningioma pushing on my brain.   I've had MRIs to monitor this other growth and in 2023 was advised to have it removed, as it was likely a low-grade glioma and had changed over time slightly.  On 7/3/23 I had surgery to remove what they could of this glioma, which turned out to be a Grade 3 Astrocytoma.  Please follow my journal for updates as I navigate this new world of radiation and chemotherapy.  Thank you for your love and support!   Janea
