Jan’s Story

Site created on January 17, 2019

Jan was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer with metastasis in the bones in January of 2019. She found a lump in her breast Christmas Eve of 2018.

Jan has a fantastic team of specialists, and a treatment plan started February of 2019.

We believe in the power of prayer and the power of positivity!

We opened a Caring Bridge for Jan as a way to invite, unite and activate our village of prayer warriors to lift up and cover Jan and family with peace and healing prayers during each step of this journey.

Jan enjoyed time with family over Labor Day weekend at Smith Lake, Alabama. The following week Jan was diagnosed with bi-lateral pneumonia, then interstitial lung disease (an adverse reaction to her current chemo regimen) when taken to the hospital on Saturday, September 9th. She was moved to ICU and placed on a ventilator on Wednesday, September 13th. Her pneumonia progressed and she developed acute respiratory lung distress. She became our mightiest, brightest, spunkiest angel on Wednesday, September 20th.

We look forward to gathering with  family and friends to celebrate Jan at 2pm on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Memphis Funeral Home.

Thank you for walking with us through Jan's  journey over the past 4 years and 8 months! 💚

Journal entry by Jason & Kimberly Callaway

Good evening,

This picture was Jan's Facebook cover photo. Looking at this photo, I think the perfect celebration of her life would be all of you joining us - acting silly on a beach with blue skies, white sands and clear water.  We would enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, chips with French onion dip, pretty fruit, coke icees & yellow cake with chocolate icing. We would stay on the beach until sunset watching families take photos and set up for wedding events. After dark, the kids would venture back out coated in aloe & bug spray, and armed with nets & buckets to hunt crabs under a bright moon.

As we prepare to celebrate Jan's life this Saturday, may we honor her this week by:

Making everyone feel seen
Making everyone feel heard
Making everyone feel loved
Making every day into an adventure topped with sprinkles of joy and gratitude!

Love,
The Callaways
