If there is any good to come out of this incredibly devastating time, it is the outpouring of love, prayer, and support that has been shown to Jan-Blaise and our family. It is overwhelming to know that so many people have taken time out of their lives to think about this precious baby and his comfort. We cannot even begin to thank everyone for their support- it has truly been amazing. 

Jan-Blaise has been seen and held by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncle with careful help from his nursing team here. His sister, Eloise, was even given special privilege and coaching from Child Life Specialist, Tracey, to come make a quick visit with her baby brother. Eloise held his hands and shared her heart stickers with him by decorating his room doors. She did a great job with being gentle with him and gave him plenty of “I love you’s”.

JB’s external drain has remained in place to keep pressure from building up in his brain. The current plan is to take him back into the OR on Tuesday to internalize this drain (meaning one less external tube, one less infection risk). Though this is usually done fairly routinely for babies with hydrocephalus, it does run greater risks for him due to the size of his tumor. We ask for prayers for his safety during this procedure. Brianna and Blaise continue to talk with his physicians daily to work out a plan regarding the potential option of a biopsy. This is a complex case that we are trying to share with as many specialists as possible so that Blaise and Brianna can make the best decisions for their baby boy. 

His feeding tube has remained in place through his nasal passage to keep him full of his mommy’s breast milk. He also receives pain medication through this tube.

A PICC line (large IV) is also in place to keep him hydrated and serves as a means for pain medication as well. He can have his blood drawn back through this line which means less sticks on baby boy. 

The overall hope is that Jan-Blaise can be moved to a brain tumor center that specializes in pediatrics, if that is necessary at this point in his workup and treatment plan. In the coming days, as test results begin to come back, physicians will be in contact for this possible transfer. Blaise, Brianna, and entire family want what is best for this sweet 3 month old and their main goal is that he is comfortable and pain free.
