James’s Story

Site created on November 28, 2012

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.  Simply subscribe to our blog and you will receive e-mail updates!

As many of you know, James was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in March 2010.  He has since undergone chemo, radiation and an Autologous stem cell transplant to fight the cancer. He had a recurrence of Lymphoma in 2012 and received an Allogenic Stem Cell Transplant using his sister Jennifer's cells. While we were celebrating remission for a short while in 2013, it appears the Lymphoma has returned yet again and we are back in this fight!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Lacey Rickert

Dear Friends and family,

I have good and bad news about James. The good news is, the treatment he received at Mayo clinic was effective and scans are NEGATIVE for lymphoma now. No cancer activity!

The bad news is, the treatment caused his graft vs host disease to flare up and create serious problems for him. They have been treating him for weeks with high dose steroids and anti-rejection meds to reverse some of these issues, but these measures have not yet been enough to put him on the road to recovery. While he remains under the watchful care of KU Med, I think he could use your support from a distance. We need all the good, healing energy, positive thoughts and prayers that we can get right now. Everything is open ended at the moment, so I can't tell you what to expect. I can only think positively and believe that we can beat this challenge too. I will update if things change. For now Arlene and I are taking turns staying overnight with him and trying to keep our spirits up.

If you prefer to send your well wishes, please use the company address: 10104 w. 105th street Overland Park, KS 66212.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Love,

Lacey
