James’s Story

Site created on January 4, 2024

Some have asked for some back story.  For those that may not have been aware. Last January Jim was diagnosed with moderate+ Alzheimer's / Dementia with a secondary diagnosis of Parkinsons likely.  Thankfully Jim enjoyed the entire summer at the place he loved most. With his Lake/Family at East Bass Lake.  He visited with people he loved,  and kept himself busy checking off tasks on his list.  Jim was able to stay at home under care and assistance from Mary Ann & help from family.  In recent months he's declined and was under additional care by hospice at home.   Over the holidays it became evident, Dad needed a higher level of care to keep him safe and comfortable that we physically & emotionally could no longer provide. With the guidance & assistance by Jim's hospice team, he was moved to North Shore Estates care facility in Duluth, on 77th Ave West and Grand Ave. On Jan 11th He moved to Solvay Hospice House. He is currently accepting visitors. Please let us know if you visit.  There is no way to provide a timeline for his journey as it’s different for everyone.   We can't say how he will be if you visit it can fluctuate multiple times a day.  Sometimes awake, upright, engaged & communicative, even expressive with emotion and I Love You's.  You may be able to rouse him if he's sleeping.   Recently he's sleeping more,  less-verbal, no interest in food, at times shares imaginative stories, agitated and in more pain.  We will use this Caring Bridge site to post regular journal updates as Dads Journey progresses.
